5 Fashion Essentials for Every Italy Packing List

One of my absolute favorite parts of traveling through Italy is the wardrobe. Are you surprised? Although you should never travel with anything too valuable (this includes your attire) you still want to look great on your Italian getaway.

With limited vacation time, my visits through Italy although relaxing are jam packed leaving zero time to waste. Keeping this in mind, I always try to be creative in packing a resourceful selection of pieces abroad.

If packing one suitcase for a visit to more than one city or region seems like dooms day, let me share a few personal tips.

Before I start my mental mood board, I always check the weather and do a little research on the areas I will be visiting. You might be traveling to a summer destination but it might be a rainy season or have an unexpected cold spell. This always persuades me to leave the heels at home and pack an extra scarf.

The Mediterranean climate is overall mild compared to the United States, with the exception of the north most spots like the dolomites and south along the Sicilian coastline. When traveling anywhere from Puglia to Turin it’s always a good idea to bring an extra layer for after sunset.

In addition to a comfortable walking shoe, go for a flat or a low, thick heeled pair when packing. Just about every city in Italy will have hills, cobblestone walkways or natural roads. The last thing you want are blisters on day one.

It’s absolutely possible to dress for a la dolce vita experience while being comfortable all day on your trip. I share some of my current packing favorites appropriate for any Italian region you may visit this spring and summer.

SNEAKERS

I live in sneakers. They are my shoe of choice and I am constantly traveling in them, especially when I’m in Italy. They are also super trendy and everyone is adding them to their everyday fit. Check out some of my current obsessions below- I’m a sucker for a chunky white kick.

FLOWLY DRESS

This is my Italian uniform. These are not only completely comfortable and cute BUT are super flattering no matter how much pasta you eat.

SCARVES

Being from the North Eastern climate of the Unites States a scarf has always been my go-to accessory out of necessity. Even in the summer, I typically add a thin, lightweight scarf for an added pattern or print. These can also serve as an extra layer to bring along to a late-night dinner in the piazza.

Cross Body Bag

Most likely you will be walking around for a majority of your day and a shoulder bag is going to feel heavy. A cross body bag can be super fun and trendy by adding a pop of color to your outfit- not to mention these are your best bet in preventing any potential pickpocketing.

Blazer or Lightweight Jacket

Unless it’s winter or extremely cold, a lightweight jacket is all that you’ll need. Since I tend to lean toward a jean jacket or oversized blazer because both are fashionable, comfortable and easy to pack.  jeans, it’s such a great added texture when you need a solid cover up. During April and November especially, I highly recommend a rain jacket or trench.
